Holiday Checklist
3 Months before travel
- Check you have a passport vaild for travel (if going abroad), if
not apply for one. Also it's worth bearing in mind that any children
that travel on your passport must be under the age of 16 on your return trip.
- Make arrangements for any pets.
2 Months before travel
- Consult your GP, and check for any medications or vaccinations you
may need for your trip.
- Buy a good guidebook for your destination and find out about local
laws and customs.
- If travelling within Europe then pick up a copy of 'Health advice
for travellers' from your local post office, then complete form EHIC
(European Health Insurance Card - previously known as the E111) which
will enable you to receive free or reduced-cost emergency treatment
in the European Economic Area (EEA).
- Get holiday insurance and ensure the cover is appropriate.
- Buy a first aid kit and stock with medicines (paracetemol, re-hydration
sachets, etc.).
- Phone Ace Cars and preliminarily book your trip to the airport /
harbour etc...
The week of travel
- Start to pack any items, remember if you are taking any electrical
goods they must be packed in your hand luggage.
- Pack your medication in your hand luggage.
- Ensure all necessary documents are in your luggage (ie. travel insurance).
- Make a list of emergency telephone numbers, also your ticket and
flight details and leave them with family and friends.
- Leave a spare key with a relative, friend or trusted neighbour and
ask them to keep an eye on the house while your away.
- Give Ace Cars a ring to confirm your booking.
- Take your pets to whoever is looking after them while you are away.
- Finish packing your luggage, remembering to keep anything you may
need during your flight and journey in your hand luggage.
- Ensure you have all tickets, passports and some cash in your hand
luggage.
The day of travel
- Double check you have all the essentials... passports, tickets, money,
wallet, suitcase, kids?
- Remember to shut and lock all windows and doors.
- Turn off all non essential electrical items, it is a good idea to
unplug them as well.
- Ensure you turn off your central heating.
